House Passes Bill to Make Lynching a Federal Hate Crime
WASHINGTON — The House passed legislation Monday that would make lynching a federal crime after lawmakers failed to pass anti-lynching bills more than 200 times since 1900. The bill was named after Till, a 14-year-old Black teenager from Chicago who was abducted, tortured and shot in the head in 1955 after he allegedly whistled at a white woman in a Mississippi store.
